Exarch of Africa: Result of missionary work in Tanzania – 16 more priests

African Exarch Metropolitan Leonid summarised the work of the missionary group since the beginning of the year.

The missionary group led by Archpriest Andrey Novikov worked in Tanzania from January 31 to February 16, Metropolitan Leonid, Patriarchal Exarch of the Russian Orthodox Church in Africa, wrote on his Telegram channel.

"They have visited six towns and villages in the eastern, northern and south-eastern parts of the country," the African Exarch noted.

Members of the mission group held 5 general meetings with clergy, 2 private meetings, 2 meetings with Orthodox activists, 3 meetings with communities, 2 meetings with Russian-speaking communities, attended by the Tanzanian clergy, including at the site of the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Dar es Salaam, in events with the head of Rossotrudnichestvo Evgeny Primakov.

Representatives of the mission's clergy have celebrated two joint liturgies, three baptisms and prayers. The missionaries visited four Orthodox parishes in Tanzania and delivered a public sermon to the laity.

Archpriest Alexander Novikov handed out antiminses, myrrh, pectoral crosses, Eucharistic sets and church utensils to Tanzanian priests, as well as hundreds of crosses and icons for the flock.

"There are 16 priests in the Russian Exarchate of Africa. "You break canons? – Then we are coming to you!", Metropolitan Leonid concluded, summing up the work in Tanzania.

As reported, the Exarch of the Russian Orthodox Church spoke of the plans to open monasteries in Africa.
