The NGO "Miriane" commented on statements that Ukraine will ratify the Istanbul Convention this year.

The NGO “Miriane” (“Laity”) responded on its Telegram channel to recent statements by Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishina about Ukraine's imminent ratification of the Istanbul Convention. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Olga Stefanishina referred to the Council of Europe's clarifications that the convention does not deal with any issues of gender ideology or identity. "Miriane" proves why this is misleading information.

"Article 3 of the Convention defines 'gender' as the socially fixed roles, behaviours, activities and characteristics that a certain society considers as appropriate for women and men. That is, 'gender' replaces the conventional notion of biological sex ... Gender ideology gives freedom to the individual to choose his or her own 'gender' and corresponding social role. And Article 14 of the Convention states that countries that adhere to this agreement should take the necessary steps to include pedagogical material on such issues as non-stereotypical roles in official curricula and at all levels of education," says the public union’s statement.

The NGO “Miriane” will continue to work to prevent Ukraine from ratifying the Istanbul Convention.

"’Miriane’ will not stop raising awareness about the true detrimental risks the convention poses to the institution of the Ukrainian family. We will continue to seek support from local councils and establish coordination with Ukrainian MPs to prevent the ratification of the Istanbul Convention.

The UOJ wrote that the Rivne Regional Council responded to the NGO "Miriane" about the Istanbul Convention.
