On the Independence Day of Ukraine, Poroshenko spoke to his supporters at a rally in Kyiv, which was organized by the "European Solidarity" party he leads.

The recognition of the Tomos of the OCU by the Orthodox Churches "is advancing across the planet", said the ex-president of Ukraine and leader of the European Solidarity party Petro Poroshenko on August 24, 2020, during the action "One cannot joke with independence". The event was broadcast live by Channel 5.

Telling about his achievements during the presidency, Poroshenko noted that “we have fulfilled an extremely difficult task with honor”, highlighting the topic of gaining “spiritual” independence.

“For five years of intensive development, the country regained its historical memory, remembered and finally honored the real Ukrainian heroes, took decisive and irrevocable steps towards the revival and protection of our native, singing Ukrainian language, our cultural and educational humanitarian space, as well as a breakthrough in gaining spiritual independence ... Finally, we have got the Tomos of autocephaly for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine!” Poroshenko said.

According to him, "our church" is now “being recognized by the Orthodox Churches all over the planet.”

“Experts called it a real geopolitical catastrophe for Russia. I agree with this assessment,” added Petro Poroshenko.

As the UOJ reported, on the Day of the State Flag, the flag of the European Union was consecrated by the OCU.
