Shchedryk100challenge: UOC priest launches a famous carol flashmob
An internet falshmob is being held on the occasion of the centenary jubilee of public performance of the most famous adaptation of N. Leontovich of folk song “Shchedryk”. The music action was initiated by cleric of Vinnitsa-based Ascension church Nazariy Davydovsky, according to UNN with reference to the press service of Vinnitsa UOC eparchy.

“The crux of the matter is to create an original video gallery of “Shchedryk” carol in the performance of various people both in Ukraine and outside it. “We invited secular and religious choirs, professional singers and amateurs, in a word – all stakeholders,” told priest Nazariy.

As he remarked, within just one month the flashmob has embraced the whole territory of Ukraine from Lvov and Ivano-Frankovsk to Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkov, crossed the borders and went further to Poland, Spain, Finland, Canada and Russia. Currently the flashmob’s video archive contains nearly 60 variants of the carol performance.

To take part in the flashmob, it’s necessary: to record one’s own performance of “Shchedryk” on the video (choir or individual), place this recording with Shchedryk100challenge hashtag on YouTube channel and in social media, and make a challenge to at least three acts or singers.

After the flashmob is over, its organizers are going to collect all the video records and transfer them to the collection of Leontovich museum, which was recently opened in Markovka village, Teplitsky district, Vinnitsa region.

The music action will continue till 15 February 2017.
